Executive Directors (DEDs) have been directed to present their original

Issuing the directives in Dar es Salaam
yesterday, the Chief Secretary (CS), Ambassador John Kijazi, said each
DED should bring original certificates and not photocopies.
The move has been taken as a reminder to
the public that strict measures will be taken against any individual
who will try to forge certificates to gain access into government
employment.
“It should be understood that
verification of original academic certificates is a normal procedure
with the aim of verifying authentic qualifications among appointees,” he
noted. Amb. Kijazi further said they have already verified photocopies
of their certificates.
The verification process will commence
at 8:00 am at the State House where all presidential appointees are
required to use the main entrance at the side of the ocean. Since coming
to power, the Fifth Phase Government has shown determination to set
high standards in all public institutions.
The verification exercise instituted by
the government brings into the public service a new dimension, which
aims at keeping the government departments functional and efficient.
It further points to the major shift in
public service where it is no longer business as usual, which is again a
wakeup call for all civil servants to toe the line in terms of meeting
ethical standards and professionalism.
On July 7, President John Magufuli
announced a line-up of 185 District Executive Directors (DEDs) that has
seen 120 new faces, 65 retained their positions although some of them
were transferred to new duty stations. 185 DEDs, five would serve in big
cities, 21 in municipalities, 22 in town councils while 137 others have
been posted to 137 district councils.
In the earlier list, Dr Leonard Moses
Massale was named DED for Dodoma Municipal Council but a statement from
the Directorate of Presidential Communications said later yesterday
evening that the State House realised that Dr Massale is the District
Commissioner (DC) for Ilemela District and that he would continue
serving as the DC.
All newly-appointed District
Administrative Secretaries (DASs), whose names have appeared in DEDs
line-up, will serve as DEDs while their DAS positions will be filled
