Ghost payments cost four police officers their jobs

According to the statement issued yesterday in Dar es Salaam by the Police Communication Department, the suspects issued ration allowances to ghost police officers.
Those suspended include Damian Aloys Bupamba, an Accountant Level II, Ida Dennis Moyo, an Accountant Level I and Assistant Auditor of Police Force, Milambo Mwita Milambo.
Major Rwegasira said in the statement that the two accountants (Bupamba and Moyo) were suspended for involvement in a fraud ration allowance to ghost workers in the 2013/2014 to 2015/16 financial years.
On the other hand, the assistant auditor was suspended for allegedly making fraud ration payments to ghost workers in the financial year 2013/14 to 2015/16.
The statement said the move to suspend the three officials comes following a continuous investigation launched by the ministry following the fraud payments of 305,820,000/- for ration allowances to people who were not police officers.
Last week, the Chief Accounting Officer of the Police Force, Mr Frank Msaki, was suspended because of the fraud. The statement said the suspended officials were involved in the ration allowance contrary to the police rules and regulations of 1995. He said the three have been suspended to pave way for special investigation to be carried out by the police internal auditor.
