Police chief accounting officer suspended for paying 305.8m to ghost workers

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Police Communications Department, Mr Msaki had issued ration allowances to ghost police officers.
“The Chief Accounting officer has been suspended for making payments amounting to 305,820,000/- for ration allowances to people who are not police officers for the financial year 2013/2014 to 2015/2016,” noted the statement.
Mr Rwegasira noted that rules and regulations of the police require that ration allowances be payable to the police alone and not ordinary people.
The PS pointed out that the Chief Accounting Officer’s suspension was effective from July 9, this year, to give room for investigations against the alleged charges.
“Opening of the case file and a special internal audit led to the discovery of several tactics that had been employed in the carrying out the fraud,” said the statement.
