Lucas Perez To Wear Number 9 Shirt For Arsenal

Lucas Perez is set to sign for us in the next couple of days. We have supposedly paid £17m to Deportiva La Coruna for the 27-year-old, and he reportedly underwent a medical at Colney today.

Perez wore number 7 during his time at Deportivo, but I sincerely believe he will don the number 9 jersey with us. The number has been unused ever since Lukas Podolski’s departure to Galatasaray in 2015.

Now, the number 9 jersey is considered to be unlucky for us. Almost all the players who have worn the number for us in recent history have either turned out to be disappointments or have struggled in some way.

The number is worn by the likes of Eduardo, Lukas Podolski, Francis Jeffers and José Antonio Reyes in Wenger years. We are all aware that neither of these players managed to live fully up to the expectations during their time with us.

Olivier Giroud reportedly refused to take the number because of the stigma attached it. Lucas Perez will most probably be the next player who will try to break the curse of the jersey 9 and here’s hoping that he passes the test with flying colors.
