THE National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) has deregistered 5 technical institutions and 175 given grace period ‘to make amends’.LIST BELOW

The technical education watchdog has issued a 14-day ultimatum to 41 other institutions that were operating without registration to fulfil the requirement of the law immediately before they face the music.

In the same vein, NACTE has raised red flag against 112 other institutions whose registration status had expired, directing that they should renew their registration immediately as the law requires.

The crackdown also found out that 52 other colleges failed to comply with accreditation requirements, according to NACTE Chairman, Engineer Steven Mlote. Eleven other colleges, according to the chairman, were registered but were offering unapproved programmes.

Addressing a news conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Eng Mlote warned the public against seeking enrolment into some technical colleges without ascertaining their registration status.

He advised students whose colleges had been axed to visit NACTE offices for clarification on how they would proceed with their studies in other colleges. He said 112 colleges whose registration had expired and 52 others that were operating without fulfilling registration requirements had been granted a grace period of one month to ensure that they meet appropriate legal requirements.

“Any failure to abide by the compliance order will lead to imminent closure of those institutions,’’ he insisted. Eng Mlote named the institutions in question as follows:
