William Lukuvi: Gvernment want to get rid of land conflicts in the country.

Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development Minister William Lukuvi, made the directives in Dar es Salaam yesterday when issuing title deeds to 446 residents of Temeke, Kinondoni and Ilala districts lined up for land compensation by the government at Kigamboni in Dar es Salaam.
“All councils in the country should start allocating plots to compensate victims of land disputes with valid cases. We (government) want to get rid of land conflicts in the country,” he said.
The minister noted that land conflicts currently engulfing the country largely caused by dishonest land officials involve double allocation of plots, issuance of title deeds among other ineffectiveness.
“We (government) have already taken various legal measures against land officials found to have been involved in the land conflicts,” he said, vowing to ensure that all dishonest land officials are thoroughly dealt with.
On the other hand, Mr Lukuvi called on residents in Dar es Salaam with land conflicts that have taken years to sort out to present their complaints in the ministry for resolution. He said the government has allocated 600 plots in Kigamboni to compensate the victims of land conflicts in Dar es Salaam.
“All victims of land mismanagement should present ownership documents and evidence to the ministry to support their claims,” he appealed, adding that there are still more plots to compensate residents with genuine cases.
He said the 446 residents lined to be compensated plots at Kigamboni would be provided with their title deeds one month-time from now to acquire the allocated plots. Meanwhile, Mr Lukuvi has asked private firms appointed to carry out land survey and planning countrywide to speed up the exercise.
He told surveyors and land planners in the city yesterday that they should ensure the exercise is professionally managed, hence ensuring issuance of title deeds to all land owners across the country.
The minister said that government has planned to issue 400,000 title deeds to land owners before the end of this year. He also directed land planning and survey firms to draw out their working guidance and directories and present it to him to ensure smooth surveying and planning of land use in the country.
